This is the translation of Only Registered Users Can See Links.. Any upgrade should be performed by qualified personnel only. SuchMuch is not responsible for upgrade failure should it happen, only person performing upgrade is responsible for results. If you doubt, send control box to AKA factory to have firmware updated there.

AKA Berkut 5 latest firmware version and changes it brings, drivers and firmware files can be found in thread: "Berkut 5 Firmware History Log Change".

    ***qte***
Berkut's 5 firmware version 5.12 or older could be updated by user locally.

Prior to start upgrade process, read below instruction thoroughly and prepare everything you'll need. Author of this article is not responsible for upgrade results and detectors should they die during the process of upgrade. Everything you do, you do at your own risk. Guarantee doesn't cover malfunctions caused by improper upgrade handling. Service maintenance of improper upgraded detectors is not covered by guarantee.

Metal detectors AKA Berkut-5 released during 1 September, 2013 - 10 December, 2015 could be upgraded locally instead of sending control box to AKA factory.

You will need blw in order to have AKA Berkut 5 upgraded:
    - Special AKA usb cabel
    USB_cable_old_b-5.jpg
    - Drivers installed (Windows)
    - Firmware upgrade file

Berkut's motherboard has 6 pins nest the special cable could be plugged in

    Upgrade Steps:
    1. Download firmware version you want b-5 to be upgraded to.
    2. Make new Folder with name, for instance, Berkut-5 in root folder (E.g.: C:\), unzip downloaded file into this folder
    3. Download drivers (Windows)
    4. Plug AKA usb cabel into computer. Drivers are usually installed automatically once usb cable is plugged into computer. If they were not installed, inzip downloaded drivers and run setup executable file (CDM20830_Setup.exe)
    5. Find number COM-port corresponds with cable plugged into computer. You can find this info in Device manger -> Ports. Referring to below picture the number of COM-port is "29"
    device_manager.jpg
    6. Return to folder "Berkut-5" created in root folder where firmware files were extracted to. Select file "upload.bat", click it with right mouse button, select "Change" and open with any text editor (E.g.: text editor integrated into "Far Manager"). Avoid using text editors like Microsoft Word.
    7. Substitute number goes after "upload.bat" with the number of COM-port. In our case number is "29". It should read finally: "prog.bat 29"
    8. Install fresh quality batteries/quality accumulators into AKA Berkut-5
    9. Get AKA Berkut 5 control box unscrewed and splitted apart
    10. Plug cabel into 6 pins nest on berkut's motherboard exactly as shown on picture:
    6_pin_plug.jpg
    - cable's print "triangle" should be at left upper corner of the motherboard
    - black wire should be closer to keyboard loop
    - green wire should be closer to headphones nest

    11. Keep pressing button "Downward Arrow" and switch Berkut on
    12. Detector will be switched on in "upload" mode, there some chaotic information could be displayed on the screen
    13. Run file "upload.bat". The process of upgrade will commence, backlight will be blinking
    14. Once the upload process is complete, metal detector will return to normal mode
    15. It's highly recomended to reset entire detector's memory. Keep pressing 3 buttons simultenuously: button "Menu" + button "Upward Arrow" + button "Ground Balance" and switch metal detector AKA berkut 5 on
    16. Readjust all the coils you possess

    That's All.
    ***unqte***

I would advise to use uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with computer whilst upgrading b-5.

If you open the control box would that void the warranty like most other detectors?

I think, there is no warranty removal with unscrewed control box. But let Igor or StiV being AKA representatives confirm this

I think that's a good point Tex. I know of certain manufacturers who fit tamper proof labels to prevent such a thing.

From what is stated above, if update is performed by user and there is a malfunction from an improperly installed update, the warranty is void. The manufacturer will not repair it under warranty. Owner will have to pay for repair or replacement.

For those that are not proficient with computer, downloading, installing, updating....programs, file systems then you should let the factory do it.

Those that are, you can use the update patch cable that comes with the Berkut.

Does the cable work via the headphones?
I thought you should connect it on the motherboard...... just like discibed above. That kind of cable I found here.... Only Registered Users Can See Links.

Therу 4 known types of Berkut-5. Each one has different or slightly different way to upgrade its firmware

No idea if they are selling original AKA cable or not. You can order original cable from @Igor
