After breaking far too many spade I tried a ALL stainless steel one but too heavy after a while so I modded a pick I imported from Arizona :

I extended the shaft with an same top quality material Hickory then I got now a beast it open the compact soil of the foreshore like a knife in butter a 4 hour session is ok I use it as a dredge when I dig close to the water line or in the water and it is fun also can be usefull to remove pebbles brick and big rocks

For deeper than 6/7 I think another tool will be needed

I have a small hand pick for summer time hard as rock soil. Just to help break through the top baked layer. IMG_20170303_200234.jpg

I had a little spare webbing, so I made a simple holster for it.

Yes but not only easy and cheep, but perfect for the job and will last the test of time.
I have just recently made a sheath from black guttering plastic. An amazing job that I'm very proud off.
    I'll post a photo tomorrow.
